Tara Valade began her riding career at the age of 9 . Riding, training and showing with Greg Prince at Hidden Oak Farm in Colchester Vermont. As Greg’s career moved on so did Tara working for him in many capacities over the next ten years. Greg’s partnership with Cookie DeSimone and the opening of a new barn in Massachusetts offered many opportunities. Tara was horse show manager and traveled extensively with the Woodridge Farm horses. While doing some local showing on the Vermont circuit she spent most of her junior, amateur and professional career showing on the AA circuit from Manchester Vermont to Ocala Florida. As a professional and an amateur Tara’s major responsibility was to show young sale horses and give them experience in multiple rings.
In 2001 Tara received the prestigious Groom of the year award at the NEHC Finals. That same year she was third at the Ariat Medal Finals at the Capital Challenge Horse Show and 4th in the New England Equitation Finals as an adult.
Tara has been teaching, training and riding as a professional in Vermont since 2001. Her large group of students range from adults who love to have fun, short stirrup riders, ambitious pony riders and Medal Maclay Qualifiers. Her students have qualified for finals such as NEHC, Maclay Regional’s and Harrisburg along with finalists in 2008 at Massachusetts Medal and Marshall &Sterling Central Equine Medal and over the years multiple VHJA Final winners. In 2006 and then again in 2008 two of her students qualified for the prestigious Ronnie Mutch Scholarship, competing against entrants from all over the country. This unique program allows top riders to ride and train at WEF -Winter Festival for a period of weeks with internationally recognized trainers.
Tara enjoys working with all kinds of riders at all levels. Her unique approach with horses has developed into a strong training program for those with challenging and young horses and her diversified show schedule has something for all her clients. Her experience as a show manager and “groom extrodainare” has made horse care the cornerstone of her program. Tara grew up riding and competing in Vermont and understands the unique needs of the equine community that exists here today. Her philosophy is to meet each and every one of her client’s goals and to work within a wide range of budgets. Her new locations in Northern Chittenden County- Stonehaven North , Milton Vermont and Southern Chittenden County- Stonehaven South, Charlotte Vermont will allow her to focus on all the elements of her unique program while offering the opportunity for riders to lesson and train at either convenient location.
